Sometimes it is necessary to remove a tooth or teeth, for a variety of reasons:
- If the tooth has been damaged and cannot be restored to reasonable strength or function. This may be due to extensive decay or severe fracture
- If the bone around the tooth is so damaged by periodontal disease (gum disease) that the tooth has become loose
- Elective tooth removal- some people may choose to have a tooth removed rather than to proceed with more complex dental treatments
- If there is not enough room for the tooth to fit comfortably into the jaw; for example to make room for other teeth during orthodontic treatment
Typically a radiograph image of the tooth is required before the extraction can proceed; this is done to
- identify the number and shape of roots
- allow Dr Teo to see how close the roots are to structures such as major nerves or the sinuses.
Dr Teo will then determine the best approach to removing the tooth.
If the extraction is likely to be complex or difficult, or there are medical reasons for doing so, Dr Teo may refer the patient to an Oral Surgeon.
Sleep dentistry is available in our rooms.
